Off-Road Segway Tours In Vermont

My family has had the opportunity to go on several segway tours during our travels. We have done both on and off-road tours. Riding on a segway is a great way to see a lot in a short amount of time. This proves particularly useful if you are only visiting a destination for a few days.

Segway Training

All segway tours begin the same way. You will be required to watch a safety video. This covers how to get on and off the segway, how to operate the machine properly, and explains how best to go up and downhills. It is important that you know how to control your segway so that you, and the others surrounding you, do not get hurt. Finally, your instructor will take you for a test run on a training course. Here you can practice stopping and starting, turning, and going over small bumps like tree roots, prior to setting out on the trail.

Off-Road Segway Tours

Quechee Segway Tours is owned and operated by Gary Neil. You’ll find them located in the Quechee Gorge Village. Their tours take riders into the backwoods and meadows of Vermont’s historic Quechee Gorge. As you ride through fields and pastures admiring the natural scenery, Gary will point out the native flora and fauna growing the area.

Quechee Gorge

Along the way Gary will make several stops. This gives him the opportunity to tell you about the history of Vermont’s steepest gorge. This 165 foot deep gorge was formed by glacial activity over 13,000 years ago. Gary will describe the economic impact it had to the Quechee area. In the 19th century Mr. A.G. Dewey opened a woolen mill along the gorge that employed over 500 people. Water from the gorge powered the factory. Although it closed in 1952, remains of the mill and dam can still be seen today.

Gary will also take you to the historic Quechee Gorge Bridge. Originally built in 1911 as a railway bridge, it was adapted in 1933 as a highway bridge to carry heavier loads. Listed in the National Register of Historic places, it is currently Vermont’s oldest surviving steel arch bridge.

I highly recommend Quechee Segway Tours. Spend a few hours with Gary meandering through woodlands and manicured trails, to experience meadows, and waterfalls. Yo will enjoy beautiful views and a short history lesson about the region.

Commenting area

  1. I’ve not yet been segwaying, but your post has convinced me that I really need to try it!!

  2. I didn’t know that you can go on off-road segway tours. It’s good to know that I’ll have to watch a safety video first before riding a segway on the tour. If I’ll enjoy a beautiful view if I ride one on a good tour, I’ll be sure to love that experience.
