My Road Trip to Cape Cod with HomeAway

My love of travel keeps me daydreaming about places I have yet to check off on my bucket list. Usually, as soon as I get home from one trip I am already plotting the next. However, when the opportunity arises I will always jump at the chance to take a spontaneous road trip. Living in New England, Cape Cod is our ideal destination for a quick weekend getaway. From Vermont, we can make it there in under six hours. I recently used HomeAway to find us the best Cape Cod vacation rental for a beach weekend with our daughter and her two friends.

Our Perfect Cape Cod Vacation Rental

Wanting to take advantage of the warm fall weather this year, we rented this beautiful cottage in the West End of Provincetown. Staying in a house allows us to immerse ourselves in the local community. Plus it is more cost-effective than paying for multiple hotel rooms.

Leaving our car behind in Boston, we took the fast ferry from over for the weekend. With no wheels at our disposal, this house was ideally located. Everything we could possibly need was just a short walk or bike ride away.

Our favorite part about this house is the front porch. It is just one multiple outdoor spaces of this Cape Cod vacation rental. With a wooden swing and a small couch, it is the perfect spot for a cup of coffee in the morning and people watching. Enjoy al fresco dining on the side patio just off the kitchen. Around the back of the house, you will find a quiet private fenced in patio.

The bright and sunny living room has comfortable seating, including a window bench, and a smart TV. We used our own Netflix account for movie night one evening. Also on this level is the kitchen, a dining room with seating for eight, and an elegantly finished full bathroom. There is a queen-sized bedroom located on the lower floor. Currently, you come down the stairs and walk right into it. There is no bedroom door. It didn’t bother our family at all and the owners mentioned that they are considering closing it off.

The kitchen has modern stainless steel appliances and cabinets stocked with everything you might need to make a fantastic meal. Every HomeAway Cape Cod vacation rental that I’ve ever stayed in has been stocked with salt, pepper, spices, oil, coffee filters and other household basic items. It is best to confirm with the owner what is already there before you arrive so you don’t purchase any essentials they might already have on hand.

The master bedroom boasts a fireplace and the most comfortable California king-sized bed I have ever slept in. It shares a beautifully modernized bathroom with the queen-sized bedroom just across the hall. The bathroom has radiant heat flooring to keep your toes warm and an oversized, subway tiled tub with two showerheads.

A private second-floor deck with ocean views accessed through a door in the bathroom or from the queen sized bedroom. It is yet another outdoor space for a private escape.

Shop

Cool boutiques, art galleries, and small shops line the streets of Provincetown. Most are just a quick walk from this Cape Cape Vacation rental. Visiting in the fall, we reaped the benefit of being in town for all of the postseason sales.

Room 68 –  This boutique store is filled with modern art and furniture for your home.

Henry & Company – A high-end men’s shop that carries a great selection smaller brand name clothing, footwear, and accessories by smaller brands.

Kiss and Makeup – Our teenage girls scoured the shelves of this shop for lip gloss, makeup, and other beauty products, many of which are locally made.

D. Flax – Since 1987 D. Flax has been selling the custom-made, non-touristy Provincetown t-shirts and sweatshirts.

Provincetown Fudge Factory –  The best place on Commerical Street to purchase handmade, old-fashioned fudge.

Eat

If you don’t make your meals in your Cape Cod vacation rental, I would recommend making reservations for dinner. Despite being there after the high season, it was still crowded.

Relish – This delightful little cafe is located almost across the street from our rental. It is a great place for a bagel and cup of coffee or take-out sandwiches to bring to the beach.

Joon Bar + Kitchen – Located less than a block from the house, this cozy restaurant and wine bar serving new American cuisine.

The Squealing Pig – An Irish Pub known for its considerable microbrew bottle beer list, Wellfleet oysters and a line out the door even at lunchtime.

The Lobster Pot – This iconic Provincetown restaurant located overlooks the harbor and serving the freshest seafood and steaks.

Cafe Heaven – A neighborhood spot with the best brunch. Come back in the evening for dinner in the bar room.

Do

No matter what time of year you plan to visit Provincetown there will be plenty to see and do. It has miles of seashore, museums, and galleries just waiting to be explored.

Ptown Bikes – Renting bikes is the easiest way to get around. We rented from Ptown on Bradford street. You can make reservations online before you arrive.

Herring Cove Beach – Just a ten-minute bike ride away is Provincetown’s most popular beach. There are clean public restrooms, outdoor showers, picnic tables. A snack bar is open seasonally.

Pilgrim Monument – Climb to the top of the 252-foot tower that commemorates the arrival of the Mayflower Pilgrims landed in the area 1620. From there you will have the best view in town.

It is never too soon to plan your next road trip. If you are looking for Cape Cod Vacation Rentals don’t miss out on this house for your next girlfriend getaway or family vacation!

Disclosure: Thank you to HomeAway for this beautiful home away from home. I received no other compensation for this review. And as always, this post reflects the honest opinion of my experience without outside influence.
